Music Box

 Music box upon my step
Did I find one midnight hour
Wondering what song it might bear
Silence there and nothing more
So I sat and waited still
On my porch and gazed afar
Searching for a wish fulfilled
A sign of you upon my door

Then a voice did call me hence
To the woods beyond my gate
Dare I tread this opulence
Carry me to our sweet place
I’ve not been there since our youth
Since the time our love commenced
Since the night of our last kiss
The last time I saw your face

In my room I’d cry and fight
Wondering where your soul had gone
Did I dream you here this night
For brighter stars my heart did long
As I followed on that path
Every step a blossom grew
Led by tenderness of song
Until I stood there and I knew

Music box, I held so tight
Closed my eyes and open slow
From the dark came butterflies
Carrying this song you blew
Dreams of all our golden days
All the places we’d explored
All the times I’d kissed your face
All the tears I’ve cried and more

Wings did wash these tears away
Washed the sadness from my soul
Magic knew me well that day
And there I stay forever more
Where the trees give audience
And the stars rain down their prayer
And when I open now this box
Pours from it this song I heard
And I believe in love again
